The Simple Truth About Internet Marketing

The Path to Internet Success can be long and arduous or relatively short and fulfilling. The path is the same, but it’s up to you whether it leads to success or failure.

There are some simple truths about internet marketing that often get overlooked or swept under the rug as they are drowned out by the cacophony of noisy salesmen all shouting over each other to get your attention.

The first simple truth about internet marketing is that there will ALWAYS be a high percentage of failures for every success. Not all the reasons are the same as they are for conventional businesses that fail. And it has nothing to do with the industry as a whole or the business models.

1. Lack of knowledge.

This can refer to not knowing WHO your market is to not knowing HOW to market to them.

For example, if you are in direct sales or network marketing, you need to build a LIST first and focus on developing relationships with that list. Otherwise, you are just another stranger amongst countless others who will come across as pitchy salesmen who are just after your money. You also need to narrow down to who it is you are trying to attract.

Affiliate marketers would be wise to study up on keyword research and learn how to utilize both paid and free methods of marketing their wares.

2. Insufficient Capital.

Let’s face reality here. If you are serious about making money online from home using the leverage of the internet, you are going to need money for hosting, domains, autoresponder, your program, advertising, automation tools, continuing education and more.

3. Not Taking Your Business Seriously.

This ties in to #2. It’s a double edged sword in that the amount of money needed to start a business online is substantially less than the money needed for a brick and mortar business. Getting started online can take as little as $500 to $5000 whereas a typical traditional business can cost anywhere from 10,000 to millions of dollars.

Just because it doesn’t take a small fortune to start, or that you get to work from home, doesn’t make it any less serious or legitimate. IN fact, there are plenty of people making 5, 6 and even 7 figures a MONTH online, so it is nothing to laugh at, and why there’s such an appeal to the average joe.

HOWEVER, many people get into this industry who shouldn’t. They lack the discipline for self motivation and are better suited for a job where there is structure and their job requirements are clearly outlined. They simply aren’t cut out to be an entrepreneur.

Another recipe for disaster is having the wrong mindset. People who are desperate to make a quick buck or think they can get rich quick and not lift a finger should stay away. Those that constantly get sucked in by hype – or put another way, becoming the cattle that rushes up to the latest milking station in hopes of instant profits for little effort. If this sounds like you – don’t quit your day job.

Some questions to ask yourself:

Do you have appealing qualities to a certain segment of people that you honestly think would join you or buy from you?

Do you have a strong enough WHY or reason for choosing to make your living through the internet as a mass marketer (salesman)?

Do you have or are you willing to put in the time and effort to develop expertise in one or more areas of marketing?

Do you want to help others succeed and give freely of yourself?

Do you possess the work ethic to put in the work required to succeed?
